You are invited to attend the Nipawin Minor Hockey Association's Annual General Meeting.
It will be held at the Evergreen Center in the Twin Lakes Room on June 25, 2025 at 7:00 pm.
There are two proposals to be presented.
1) Tiered Team Formation Policy – NEMHL Alignment
To ensure all NMHA players have the opportunity to develop and compete at an appropriate level, the following policy will guide team formation within age divisions where three (3) or more teams exist:
Policy Statement:
When the Nipawin Minor Hockey Association (NMHA) has three or more teams within a single age group, the following structure will be used:
-
Two (2) teams will be formed with the highest skilled players, as determined through an evaluation process, and will be placed in the top division of the North East Minor Hockey League (NEMHL) skill-alike groupings.
-
The remaining team(s) will be placed in the lower division(s) of the NEMHL, according to their skill level and developmental needs.
Rationale:
-
This approach ensures that all NMHA players are placed in a category that best suits their skill level and personal development, creating a more positive and competitive experience for everyone.
-
It allows families to choose an environment that aligns with their interest level and commitment to hockey, particularly regarding the level of competition and number of tournaments.
-
By aligning with the NEMHL’s existing skill-alike structure, NMHA promotes fair play, skill development, and appropriate competition for all players.
2) ARTICLE 6 – Organization (Amended)
(a) The NMHA shall operate through:
A Board of Directors consisting of the following voting members:
· Past President
· President
· Vice President
· Secretary
· Division Coordinator – U7 & U9 (formerly Initiation & Novice combined)
· Division Coordinator – U11 (formerly Atom)
· Division Coordinator – U13 (formerly PeeWee)
· Division Coordinator – U15 (formerly Bantam)
· Division Coordinator – U18 (formerly Midget)
· Division Coordinator – Aces (formerly Girls Hockey)
· Division Liaison – Wolfpack (formerly Midget AA)
· Equipment Coordinator
---
Rationale for Amendment to Article 6:
1. Alignment with Hockey Canada Age Categories: This amendment updates division names (e.g., U7, U9, etc.) to align with current Hockey Canada standards, ensuring consistency across levels of play and clarity for players, parents, and volunteers.
2. Streamlining Board Representation: The Initiation and Novice divisions have been combined under one Division Coordinator to reflect shared age group dynamics and operational efficiencies at the developmental level.
3. Removal of Non-Voting Roles from the Board: The Referee-in-Chief and General Manager roles, while vital to operations, are not voting members and therefore do not require formal inclusion in the Board of Directors section. These positions will continue to function in advisory or administrative capacities as needed.
4. Program-Specific Representation: The Girls Hockey and Midget AA roles have been renamed to Aces and Wolfpack, respectively, to better reflect team branding and provide clearer identity for each program within the association.
